This is a great video of an Arabic Christmas Carol. It brings together things that don’t seem to fit and yet are true of our Savior. Certainly some of you will watch this and think that this could never happen, that God could never do this – you may even think it is blasphemy. I simply ask each of you to remember that God is God and he is in the heavens and does as he pleases. Who are we to tell him what he can and cannot do? Then consider how utterly unique Jesus Christ is in his birth (who else can claim to be born of a virgin?!).

It’s a beautiful Orthodox Troparion of the Nativity of the Antiochian Church. Yes, the same in the Bible where Christians first received this name. They are still there, pushed to Damascus by Muslim invasions, but still praising and worshiping the One True God.

Sick bro!
That was a great video and really important to pray that Arabic speaking Muslims will soon sing this kind of praise to Al Masih. (John Piper tweeted this with this prayer – that’s how I saw it.)
Leslie – Jesus probably spoke Aramaic, not Arabic. Aramaic was the language of Babylon and Assyria – The Jews continued to speak it after they came back from exile. Close to Hebrew. Related to Arabic, but not the same.
Why does “makindell” say “sick bro!” ?? It doesn’t make sense, given his website/blog
Is this a new modern saying? Like in the 80s, “bad” meant “good” or “cool” ??
Yes, “sick, bro” means he really, really likes it
As did I. Beautiful!!
Thank you! Breath-taking; a very special Christmas gift.
Awesome. God is so big, and so able.
I enjoyed this very much–helped me reconnect with Christ’s birth after a morning of opening gifts. Thank you.
I absolutely love this…. Seeing the sights I have visited put to the Arabic, our Saviors native language…..
Actually, anoyone can CLAIM to be born of a virgin. Jesus, as far as I can research, did not make this claim himself. Perhaps he thought people listened to him because of what he said, and didn’t need to embellish himself with dubious improbabilities.
A wonderful Christmas Carol, and challenging, breaking stereotypes and prejudices it is all too easy to take on as personal baggage. The song is soaring and beautiful.
Leslie Rex – Jesus’ native languages were actually Hebrew/Aramaic. Arabic was confined to the Peninsula.
The sound of this chant combined with the images caused quite a wild and wonderful vivid remembrance for me. In the last 2 years, I’ve had the pleasure to visit several mid-east countries, and this video stirred up a host of sights and sounds stored in my memory….quite wonderful!
To know that so voices from around the globe will be raised in praise to the Jesus, the King of Kings, gives me a thrill!
Thanks for posting!
